OrthoCarolina Plans Its First Standalone Surgery Center in Steele Creek
By Tripper Wood ·
Steele Creek is getting a new place for outpatient orthopedic surgery. OrthoCarolina plans to start construction on a 15,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center there before the end of 2026, with an opening expected toward the end of 2027, the Charlotte Business Journal reported. CBJ describes it as the practice's first standalone ambulatory surgery center.
The basics
- Size: about 15,000 square feet
- Operating rooms: four
- Ownership: wholly owned by OrthoCarolina, a physician-owned orthopedic practice with more than 40 locations
- Timeline: construction begins before year-end; opening targeted for late 2027
Part of a bigger buildout
The Steele Creek center joins OrthoCarolina's other surgery centers in Mallard Creek and Matthews. In May 2026 the practice announced plans to grow its Mecklenburg County surgery center capacity from four operating rooms to 10, including doubling the operating rooms in Matthews, according to Hoodline, citing Becker's Spine Review.
Why Steele Creek
The location tracks with the area's growth. Steele Creek's population grew 46.7% between 2010 and 2020 to 76,301 residents, according to Census figures compiled by the Steele Creek Residents Association, as cited by Hoodline.
