If you ride the Lynx Blue Line from South Charlotte or Pineville toward uptown, build in a little extra time this November and early December. The Charlotte Area Transit System will run trains on a single track through parts of the line on several stretches of dates while crews build the foundation for a new South End station and repair concrete at Archdale Station, CATS announced.
Why it's happening
- Most of the work is for the new South End station near the pedestrian rail crossing by Publix, where crews will install a grade beam and concrete foundation.
- On Nov. 14 and 15, crews will repair concrete at Archdale Station.
The schedule and where to board
While single-tracking is in effect, trains in both directions share one track through the work zone, so riders board on the same platform no matter which way they're headed.
- Mon., Nov. 2 to Fri., Nov. 6: New Bern to Bland stations. Board on the southbound platform (toward I-485/South Blvd.).
- Mon., Nov. 9 to Fri., Nov. 13: New Bern to Bland stations. Board on the southbound platform.
- Sat., Nov. 14 to Sun., Nov. 15: Archdale to Scaleybark stations. Board on the northbound platform (toward uptown and UNC Charlotte Main).
- Mon., Nov. 30 to Fri., Dec. 4: New Bern to Bland stations. Board on the northbound platform.
- Mon., Dec. 7 to Fri., Dec. 11: New Bern to Bland stations. Board on the northbound platform.
Tips for riders
- Blue Line trains will keep running throughout the work. CATS suggests planning ahead and allowing extra travel time.
- Look for directional signs and listen for announcements at stations. Updated schedules and live train tracking are on the CATS-Pass app and the CATS website.
