Good news for trick-or-treaters: Halloween night in the Charlotte area looks dry and mild. WBTV's latest forecast says the warm, dry stretch the region has been enjoying holds into the weekend.

Thursday and Friday

Expect highs in the mid-70s on Thursday. Friday is the warmest day of the week, with Charlotte reaching just above 80 degrees, about a dozen degrees above normal for late October. That is still short of the daily record of 84, according to WBTV.

Saturday, Oct. 31: trick-or-treat time

Clouds increase on Saturday, but the evening still looks dry. Temperatures should be in the low 70s before sunset, then slip into the 60s as the night goes on. A light layer is plenty for little ones walking neighborhoods in Ballantyne, Matthews or anywhere else around South Charlotte. WSOC's forecast also calls for quiet weather on Halloween.

Sunday and next week

Sunday and Monday turn cooler. Earlier in the week forecasters were watching for Sunday rain, but WBTV now says measurable rain is unlikely Sunday beyond a few sprinkles, and showers Monday and Tuesday look light, with chances around 20%. A stronger, wetter system is expected to arrive Wednesday night into Thursday.

Remember that clocks fall back one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, so trick-or-treat night comes with an extra hour of sleep.
