Marvin's New Village Manager, Brian T. Lee, Is on the Job

Marvin has a new person running village hall. Brian T. Lee started as village manager on Monday, Oct. 19, after the Marvin Village Council appointed him, the village announced in an Oct. 6 press release. Lee is now listed as village manager in Marvin's staff directory.
Who he is
- Lee is a certified public accountant and a certified North Carolina local government finance officer.
- He comes from Harrisburg in Cabarrus County, where he was assistant town manager and finance director. There he helped guide a staff of about 140 employees and built 10-year capital and financial models for the town, the Enquirer Journal reported.
- In Harrisburg he managed the funding and delivery of more than $100 million in capital projects, including nearly $20 million in federal transportation grants. He also worked on the town's strategic comprehensive plan, parks master plan and unified development ordinance.
- Before Harrisburg, he was a manager at the Martin Starnes & Associates accounting firm.
- He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Appalachian State University and completed the UNC School of Government's Municipal and County Administration Course.
In the village's release, Lee said he is "honored to be selected by the village council to serve as Marvin's next village manager."
How the hire came together
The council met in a special closed session on Aug. 25 to negotiate the contract, listed the contract and appointment on its Sept. 14 agenda, and placed the appointment on the Oct. 5 consent agenda as the final step, The Waxhaws Dispatch reported. Minutes from the Oct. 5 meeting hadn't been posted yet, so the vote count isn't on the public record.

Marvin Village Hall is at 10006 Marvin School Road, and the main number is 704-843-1680. Council meeting dates and agendas are posted on marvinnc.gov.
