Tuesday, Nov. 3, is Election Day in North Carolina, and if you didn't vote early, today is your last chance. Here's a quick checklist for voters in Ballantyne, SouthPark, Matthews, Waxhaw and the rest of the area.
Poll hours and where to go
- Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Anyone in line at 7:30 p.m. can still vote, WBTV notes.
- On Election Day you must vote at your assigned precinct, not at an early voting site. Look up your polling place with the State Board of Elections polling place search.
Free rides on CATS
The Charlotte Area Transit System is offering complimentary service on all of its routes to and from designated polling places today, according to a CATS announcement. CATS suggests planning your trip with the CATS-Pass app, and customer service can be reached at 704-336-7433. Light rail riders should also keep in mind that the Blue Line is single-tracking between New Bern and Bland stations this week, which can add delays (see our Blue Line single-tracking story).
Turnout so far
More than 2.8 million North Carolinians cast ballots during early voting, a record, WBTV reported.
What's on the ballot
Every North Carolina voter will see the U.S. Senate race, a U.S. House race, state legislative races and three proposed constitutional amendments. Catch up with our guide to the three amendments, our Union County school board races rundown and the Union County jail bond explainer. For background on voting rules, see our early voting and Election Day basics.
When results come in
Results start posting after polls close at 7:30 p.m. You can follow them on the State Board of Elections results site and through local outlets such as WBTV.
